Print Degree for Associate in Radiologic Science (Completing Core Online)

Although the AS in Radiologic Science is not a fully online program, the required courses to apply to this program, are available to you fully online.

Albany State University offers the core curriculum fully online for students. If you are a student who is beginning the exciting educational journey into any HealthCare Career Program, you can fully complete online all the required courses to officially submit your application to the Radiologic Science program.

Please Note:  The number of credit hours you see on the print degree screen only reflects the pre-requisite core classes needed to apply to the AS Degree in Radiologic  Science program and does not imply an earned AS degree with those hours.

Radiologic Science, also known as Radiography or Radiologic Technology, is a profession that requires a special balance of technical knowledge (working with equipment and ionizing radiation) supplemented with superior patient care skills (knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, excellent communication abilities, and having the desire for the safe delivery of diagnostic radiation). Technologists will encounter a variety of patients with different ages, sizes, and/or conditions that may make imaging a challenge. Radiographers perform a surprising amount of diverse exams daily from chest and abdominal x-rays to fluoroscopic exams, interventional studies, trauma and surgical radiography.

Radiologic Technologists use computer technology coupled with various types of equipment that produces ionizing radiation (x-rays) to produce diagnostic images. Technologists evaluate the quality of the images prior to sending them to the radiologist(s) to be read or interpreted. The images assist with the diagnosis of various medical conditions.

Obtaining an Associate of Science degree in Radiologic Science can serve as a foundation needed to provide opportunities to pursue continued education in other specialized imaging modalities. Examples of some of these include but are not limited to Computerized Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS), Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy, Mammography, and more.

Technically speaking, there are no pre-requisite classes needed in order to submit an application to the Radiologic Science program. However, a student will improve their chances by completing the following classes before submitting the program application: ENGL 1101, MATH 1111, BUSA 2101 plus Option #1 Preferred (BIOL 2411k and BIOL 2412k) or Option #2 (*BIOL 1100k) *PLEASE NOTE: BIOL 1100k is an institutionally developed course that will not transfer outside of Albany State University nor count towards many other programs or degrees within the institution. For this reason, it is strongly recommended to the student to take Option #1 which includes the sequence of BIOL 2411k and BIOL 2412k in place of the offered BIOL 1100k. Taking BIOL 2411k and BIOL 2412k will improve your odds for being accepted into the career program as this science sequence is weighed higher than the BIOL 1100k alone.
